We're back at Malaprops bookstore, eating our homemade sandwiches before our departure for Atlanta! We didn't get to update the blog as much while we were here because it was hard to find wireless! But I'll recap my personal highlights!
We had a jam packed day on saturday, beginning with our trip into downtown. The weather here has been PERFECT! almost a little chilly for the clothes that I packed (I didn't have enough warm clothes with me!), these mountains push all the humidity out of the air, and it's so easy to breathe! -- I'll speak for myself though on the breathing, because rach is still having a hard time with the sickness, though its getting better! She's been so great, to be coughing and going out so much. We've all kept each other in very high spirits too, sure we all get a little tired sometimes, but we're working together well!
In downtown we ate crepes made by two french men from paris on the side of the road and ate some of the best avacado sandwich/salads ever!
On the way back to our place we decided, since it was so nice out, to take a drive on the blue ridge parkway here in Asheville.... which is a decision I could never regret! It was soooo beautiful, we have pictures... I hope you can feel the beauty by looking at them. The mountains are so expansive! We decided to stay outside at one of the overlooks and I played guitar and Judy and Rach drew in their sketchbooks. Two nights ago we ended up driving around downtown again, trying to get lost in this tiny city just for fun... and then we passed by a little restaurant where rach spotted people salsa dancing inside! PERFECT! We pulled over into the next parking spot, and walked down to the place, and danced until 1 in the morning! I had never salsa danced really before, but rach and judy got lessons last summer, so they taught me some things, and then there was a guy named Manuel who was the leading/salsa dancing pro, who twirled us all around and taught us stuff. It was so much fun to dance like that! I'd love to learn to salsa some more. The place is called Mela's I think we took a picture of it the next day.
Yesterday we woke up late and hiked Mount Pisgah, which gave us a panoramic view of North Carolina. The hike was tough, 1.5 miles completely uphill, but it felt good to hike it, and we met an elderly couple originally from Germany who hiked the mountain faster than we did! They were so cool to talk to, very sweet people, with an enchanting kind of accent. We ate sandwiches on the overlook at the top of the mountain and wrote in our journals some.
While we were up there, some dark clouds were moving our way, so we decided to head down the mountain, about 10 minutes into the hike it started to rain.... another 10 minutes it started to DOWNPOUR! we were laughing and running (carefully), and enjoying the cool rain. It was really an adventure to hike all the way up and have to brave through the rain on the way down. We got to the care soaking wet, and the peak of the mountain we climbed was covered in clouds. BEfore the rain it was sooo clear outside, the weather can change very quickly!
Last night we took it easy, we came downtown to do open mike, but the place was no longer open that i found online... so we tried to get wireless, but ended up sitting on the sidewalk OUTSIDE malaprops because it was closed, quickly checking our email with the wireless connection.
Alright, the pictures aren't posting here, but I do know we have wireless at our hostel in Atlanta, so I promise we'll put a bunch up then! Thanks for reading!!!
